El complejo lagunar de Alvarado es un sistema lagunar-estuarino compuesto por lagunas costerassalobres, destacándose las lagunas de Alvarado, Buen País y Camaronera, más de 100 lagunas interiores,como Tlalixcoyan y las Pintas, y varios ríos, destacándose, los ríos Papaloapan, Acula, Blanco y Limón.

Es uno de los mas importantes del país y hogar de manatíes, ofrece en sus recorridos por lancha la belleza y exuberancia de un paisaje de palmeras, árnoles de maderas preciosas, manglares, aves migratorias y muy pequeñas poblaciones de pescvadores que conviven siendo parte de la naturaleza protegiéndola.

El sistema lagunar de Alvarado, fue incluido el 2 de febrero de 2004 en el listado de humedales de Importancia Internacional o sitios RAMSAR (nº. ref. 1355, con un área protegida de 267.010 hectáreas).

The Alvarado lagoon complex is a lagoon-estuarine system composed of brackish coastal lagoons, highlighting the Alvarado, Buen País and Camaronera lagoons, more than 100 inland lagoons, such as Tlalixcoyan and Las Pintas, and several rivers, notably the Papaloapan, Acula, Blanco and Limon. 

It is one of the most important in the country and home to manatees, offering in its boat tours the beauty and exuberance of a landscape of palm trees, trees of precious woods, mangroves, migratory birds and very small populations of fishermen who coexist as part of the nature protecting it.

 The Alvarado lagoon system was included on February 2, 2004 in the list of wetlands of International Importance or RAMSAR sites (ref. no. 1355, with a protected area of ​​267,010 hectares).
